https://www.nzherald.co.nz/news/taupoturangiherald/I am so proud of the last printed issue of the Taupō & Tūrangi Weekender. Alert level three was announced on Tuesday just before our print deadline, with the country scheduled to go to full lockdown midnight Wednesday. My colleague and editor Laurilee McMichael and I worked hard and smart to find out the opening hours and protocol changes for supermarkets, doctors and pharmacies. When the paper came out on Thursday, alert level 4 was all very new, and our community newspaper was stacked full of relevant information. After some government waivering, community newspapers have been classed as an essential service with our parent company NZME supporting online community news from the Taupō – Tūrangi area. I am looking forward to the day when our community newspaper is printed again.
